A family of yeast proteins mediating bidirectional vacuolar amino acid transport.
-
Seven S. cerevisiae genes (AVT1-7) encode membrane-spanning proteins related to the neuronal GABA-glycine vesicular transporters; four (AVT1, AVT3, AVT4, AVT6) were demonstrated to mediate vacuolar amino acid transport (AVT1 imports large neutral amino acids; AVT3/AVT4 export large neutral amino acids; AVT6 exports Asp/Glu). AVT2 was not among the members with demonstrated activity. AVT2 is directly localized (by SGD IDA from this paper) to the endoplasmic reticulum, whereas UniProt maps it (from the same paper) to the vacuole membrane.
