ORFeome cloning and global analysis of protein localization in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe.
Identification of a G1-type cyclin puc1+ in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe.
Phosphorylation of the RNA-binding protein Zfs1 modulates sexual differentiation in fission yeast.
Analysis of the Schizosaccharomyces pombe cyclin puc1: evidence for a role in cell cycle exit.
Ran1 functions to control the Cdc10/Sct1 complex through Puc1.
A single fission yeast mitotic cyclin B p34cdc2 kinase promotes both S-phase and mitosis in the absence of G1 cyclins.

In cdc13-deleted re-replicating cells, further deletion of cig1 and puc1 has no effect whereas cig2 deletion severely delays re-replication; Puc1 cannot substitute for the B-type cyclins in driving S phase.
"Further deletion of cig1 and puc1 had no effect, but deletion of cig2/cyc17 caused a severe delay in re-replication"
A single cyclin-CDK complex is sufficient for both mitotic and meiotic progression in fission yeast.
-
Puc1 has a role in sexual differentiation but no significant role in meiotic cell cycle progression; cig1 cig2 puc1 triple mutants mate and sporulate.
"the Puc1 cyclin has been shown to have a role during sexual differentiation29 but no significant roles have been identified in meiotic cell cycle progression"
CDK contribution to DSB formation and recombination in fission yeast meiosis.
-
Cig1, Cig2 and Puc1 control G1 progression while Cdc13 is essential for chromosome segregation; puc1 expression is almost undetectable during meiotic prophase.
"In the case of puc1, expression is almost undetectable during meiotic prophase, where it is even less abundant than in vegetative cells"

Puc1-Cdc2 immunocomplexes phosphorylate Rum1 at T58/T62 and are resistant to Rum1 inhibition; deleting puc1 in cig1 cig2 cells lengthens G1 and increases the size at S-phase entry (Martin-Castellanos et al. 2000).
"At 10 nM Rum1, Cdc2–Cdc13 activity was inhibited and Cdc2–Cig2 activity was almost completely inhibited, whereas Puc1-associated activity was not significantly inhibited."
