# Orb exact-sequence assessment

Q8IMZ2 is 559 residues; long Orb Q9VCN7 is 915 residues. Global alignment yields 559 aligned pairs with 555 identities. The complete 552-residue C-terminal region (target 8–559, reference 364–915) is identical. Differences lie at the N-terminus and comprise two long deletions plus four substitutions in the first seven aligned residues. The conserved RNA-recognition and zinc-binding region is retained.

The independent CG4793/RefSeq positive control yields 910 identities in 910 aligned residues, with no indel. Full alignments and input hashes are in the JSON outputs.

This establishes preservation of the RNA-binding machinery, not identical regulation of every Orb isoform. Broad RNA-binding and translation-regulator functions can reasonably transfer from experimentally characterized Orb to the selected shorter form. N-terminal regulatory differences do not provide evidence against the generic activity. Protein names alone are not used to infer identity with the distinct Orb2 gene.
