flbE encodes a small upstream developmental activator of conidiation in Aspergillus nidulans that is functionally and physically associated with the bZIP transcription factor FlbB at the hyphal tip. FlbE is required for FlbB activity and for timely induction of conidiation; it also influences sexual development. Its own molecular activity is not defined (it has no characterized catalytic or DNA-binding function), so it is modeled as an accessory activator.
| GO Term | Evidence | Action | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| GO:0043935 sexual sporulation resulting in formation of a cellular spore | IMP PMID:20817115 Characterization of the developmental regulator FlbE in Aspe... | KEEP AS NON CORE | Summary: FlbE also affects sexual sporulation (non-core). Reason: A secondary role in sexual development alongside its main asexual-activator function. |
| GO:0048315 conidium formation | IMP PMID:19007409 Aspergillus nidulans FlbE is an upstream developmental activ... | ACCEPT | Summary: Core process. FlbE is required for conidium formation. Reason: FlbE is an upstream developmental activator required for conidiation. Supporting Evidence: PMID:19007409 In this report, we describe FlbE as a UDA containing two conserved but hitherto uncharacterized domains, which functions in close association with putative transcription factor FlbB. PMID:19007409 Mutants affected in these factors remain aconidial (fluffy) with low brlA expression levels (flb). |
| GO:0043943 regulation of asexual sporulation resulting in formation of a cellular spore | IMP PMID:20817115 Characterization of the developmental regulator FlbE in Aspe... | ACCEPT | Summary: Core process. FlbE regulates asexual sporulation. Reason: FlbE positively regulates asexual sporulation as an upstream activator. Supporting Evidence: PMID:20817115 The deletion of flbE causes reduced conidiation and delayed expression of brlA and vosA in both species. |
| GO:0001411 hyphal tip | IDA PMID:19007409 Aspergillus nidulans FlbE is an upstream developmental activ... | ACCEPT | Summary: Hyphal-tip localization (with FlbB). Reason: FlbE localizes to the hyphal tip, where it associates with FlbB. Supporting Evidence: PMID:19007409 Both UDAs are functionally interdependent, and colocalize at the hypha tip in an actin cytoskeleton-dependent manner. |
| GO:0001411 hyphal tip | IPI PMID:19007409 Aspergillus nidulans FlbE is an upstream developmental activ... | ACCEPT | Summary: Hyphal-tip localization / FlbB interaction. Reason: FlbE physically associates with FlbB at the hyphal tip. Supporting Evidence: PMID:19007409 Moreover, bimolecular fluorescence studies show that they physically interact in vivo. |
| GO:0075307 positive regulation of conidium formation | IMP PMID:19007409 Aspergillus nidulans FlbE is an upstream developmental activ... | ACCEPT | Summary: Core process. FlbE positively regulates conidium formation. Reason: flbE mutants are delayed/deficient in conidiation. Supporting Evidence: PMID:19007409 Mutants affected in these factors remain aconidial (fluffy) with low brlA expression levels (flb). PMID:20817115 The deletion of flbE causes reduced conidiation and delayed expression of brlA and vosA in both species. |
