CAPSL is a conserved calcyphosin-like protein containing EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. Its sequence strongly supports calcium binding and an intracellular regulatory role. Human CAPSL supports endothelial proliferation and migration, but the precise downstream mechanism and corresponding physiological functions in horse remain to be established. A mammalian structural preprint identifies CAPSL as a microtubule-inner protein of the ciliary transition zone and reports microtubule stabilization in vitro; the native structural evidence is from bovine cilia.

| GO:0005509 calcium ion binding | IEA GO_REF:0000120 | ACCEPT | Summary: Conserved EF-hand calcium-binding motifs support calcium ion binding. Reason: The human sequence has four EF-hand domains with explicit calcium-coordinating positions assigned by PROSITE-ProRule. Horse CAPSL is 97.1% identical over all 208 human residues and retains the EF-hand architecture. This is a motif- and conservation-based inference; no direct calcium-binding measurement is asserted.
