Cis4 is a CDF-family zinc transporter that forms a heteromeric complex with Zrg17 in the cis-Golgi membrane. It transfers zinc from the cytosol into the secretory pathway, particularly under zinc-limiting conditions, and thereby supports intracellular zinc balance and Golgi-dependent protein trafficking. Its compartment and low-zinc role differ from the ER zinc transporter Zhf1.

| GO:0005789 endoplasmic reticulum membrane | IEA GO_REF:0000044 | UNDECIDED | Summary: An additional ER membrane pool is not established by the available target experiments. Reason: The experimentally distinguished compartments are cis-Golgi for Cis4/Zrg17 and ER for Zhf1. The curated UniProt ER mapping is not itself refutation or confirmation of an additional Cis4 pool; retain uncertainty rather than asserting that Cis4 can never enter the ER. Supporting Evidence: PMID:29529046 Cis4 and Zrg17 form a heterodimeric complex that transports zinc into the cis-Golgi. |
