Bacterial taurine uptake and desulfonation

A reusable two-part bacterial module in which the TauABC ATP-binding cassette transporter imports extracellular taurine and TauD oxidatively cleaves the imported sulfonate to aminoacetaldehyde and sulfite. The module represents acquisition of taurine as a sulfur source. Downstream aminoacetaldehyde metabolism, sulfite assimilation, sulfur-starvation regulation, and alternative organosulfonate transport or cleavage systems are outside the boundary.

Exact UniProt exemplars delimit the TauA, TauB, TauC, and TauD roles without restricting the module taxonomically. TauA, TauB, TauC, and TauD use the exact functional PANTHER subfamilies present in the exemplars rather than their broader parent families. TauABC stoichiometry follows reviewed bacterial transporter records. Sulfur-starvation regulation, downstream aminoacetaldehyde and sulfite metabolism, and alternative sulfonate systems remain outside the boundary. PTNs encountered in source GOA are provenance only; no ancestral node is asserted without verified PAINT IBD evidence.
